Tim exasperated after missing the train at Brunswick station. Train speeding away behind him

More frequent trains for Brunswick

The Upfield line needs an upgrade. Would you start catching the train to work or school if the line was more frequent and reliable?

The Upfield train line has some of the longest wait times of any of Melbourne’s major lines. That means if you miss your train, you’re stuck waiting for 20 minutes or more- and you’ll probably be late to wherever it is you’re heading.

Infrequent and unreliable trains are a huge barrier for people wanting to make the switch from driving to public transport.

The population in Brunswick is expected to grow, but the roads are not, so we need to make it easier for people to access reliable, accessible public transport.

Now is our moment to fight for change.

With the Brunswick level crossing removal project set to begin, and the Government’s new activity centre plans driving population growth in the inner north, the community has an opportunity to push for better frequency.

Last year I hosted a community meeting about the Brunswick level crossing removal, and improved frequency was one of the biggest issues raised. But in January 2025 we heard the Government scrapped plans for a turnback at Gowrie that would have halved the wait time for trains in Brunswick!

Labor scrapping this plan means that even with Metro Tunnel improvements, the Upfield line often runs only once every 20 minutes because of the single track between Gowrie and Upfield stations.

Tens of thousands of people use the upfield train line, so Labor, it’s time for reliable, frequent, and accessible public transport in Brunswick. Add you name to the campaign and tell Labor we need more frequent trains for Brunswick.
