Stop Waste Incinerators

Setting fire to our waste problems should never be the answer.

For decades the Victorian Government has neglected waste and recycling, and now they want to burn the problem and leave the regions to deal with the mess.

Victorians deserve better than to be burdened with hazardous waste facilities that put our health and environment at further risk of harm.

Building new projects like this also undermines our State and local efforts to reduce waste. Just one of these projects, the proposed Lara incinerator, will be capable of burning 400,000 tonnes of waste, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week for the next 25 years.

That’s more waste than the whole of Western Victoria even produces!

It’s inevitable that waste-guzzling incinerators just like this one end up burning recyclables, plastic and organic waste because there is no commitment from these companies that they will separate the waste they receive.

This is not what our climate or communities need right now. We need to focus on waste reduction, not toxic incinerators.

Sign our petition

The Greens are sponsoring a petition demanding that Labor stop all proposed waste-to-energy projects in Victoria, now and in the future.

If it reaches 2000 paper signatures, we can force a special debate in Parliament about Labor’s plan. This puts pressure on the government to stop the incinerators.

Can you help collect paper petition signatures in your community?

Download and print a copy of the petition below. Make sure you return or mail the original printed and signed pages (not a photocopy or image) to Tim Read’s office, 1/31 Nicholson St, Brunswick East 3057.
