Do you live near or travel along Lygon Street near the Melbourne General Cemetery?
Princes Park and the Melbourne General Cemetery are popular walking destinations for people living in Carlton North, but they have to cross Lygon St to get there. A popular crossing spot is Macpherson St, which runs along the north edge of the cemetery. Every morning you can see walkers dodging the traffic to get across. While the recent speed limit reduction has made a welcome difference to safety, it’s still a hostile crossing for walkers.
Currently the only way for those enjoying Princes Park or a walk though Melbourne General Cemetery to safely cross Lygon Street is 750m down the road at the Princes St intersection, or 200m north after Richardson Street. The community are crossing Lygon Street at Macpherson Street every day and our streets should be safe for them.
Sign up to the campaign to tell Yarra Council to build a pedestrian crossing over Lygon Street near MacPherson Street and tell the Minister for Roads and Road Safety to approve it.
