I’ve had many people in the community write to me about how unreliable buses are in the inner north.

Recently, a community run campaign to get more frequent services on the 508-bus route, which runs from Moonee Ponds through to Alphington, has been gaining steam. This bus is a direct connection to the Mernda train line, the Upfield train line and Sydney Road. Currently, the bus service operates approximately every 20 minutes on weekdays and every 40-60 minutes on weekends.

We know that when public transport is regular, reliable, and cheap, more people switch from driving to getting on the bus. So why do so many of our buses run infrequently, or not at all on weekends or evenings?

I wrote to the Minister for Public and Active Transport advocating for increased frequency, and used my first speech in Parliament this year to ask the Government when they will listen to the community and fix the 508?

If you want to get involved in the campaign, follow 508 more buses on Facebook.
